Your journey to becoming a teacher starts here. Whether you鈥檙e excited about working with young learners, mentoring adolescents in a specific subject area, or supporting students with diverse learning needs, UW鈥揈au Claire offers pathways that align with your passions and goals. Our Teacher Education programs are housed in two departments鈥擡ducation Studies and Special Education鈥攅ach designed to help you grow into a confident, capable, and compassionate educator.

The Department of Education Studies prepares you to become a teacher who builds real connections and makes learning engaging and meaningful. From your first classes through student teaching, you鈥檒l gain hands on experience in real classrooms, working alongside experienced educators, and putting theory into practice right away. You鈥檒l discover your teaching style, use inclusive and creative strategies, advocate for equitable schools, and form strong relationships with faculty and classmates鈥攋oining a proud community of Blugold teachers who inspire confidence, curiosity, and bright futures.

The Department of Special Education prepares you to support diverse learners and create inclusive classrooms where every student can thrive. Through hands鈥憃n experiences and close mentorship, you鈥檒l learn how to make a meaningful difference for students with and without exceptionalities. You鈥檒l complete five classroom placements in a variety of school settings, building the confidence and flexibility needed for today鈥檚 classrooms. With the combined Special Education K鈥12 and Elementary/Middle K鈥9 degree, you鈥檒l graduate with broad licensure, strong support from dedicated faculty, and the skills to lead with empathy, expertise, and purpose.

Research Opportunities

At UW鈥揈au Claire, undergraduate research is a hands鈥憃n opportunity to explore questions that matter to you. Education students regularly collaborate with faculty mentors to design research projects that connect theory to real鈥憌orld practice鈥攐ften presenting their work at national conferences or partnering with community organizations.

Through research, you鈥檒l sharpen critical thinking skills, strengthen your r茅sum茅, and graduate with experience that sets you apart.

From early in your program, you鈥檒l gain meaningful experience working alongside professional teachers in local schools. Through multiple K鈥12 classroom placements, you鈥檒l learn what it鈥檚 really like to teach in a variety of school settings鈥攂uilding confidence, refining your skills, and connecting coursework to real students and real classrooms. These experiences prepare you to step into your final student teaching placement ready to succeed.
